Minnesota Historical Society reproduction. 20×30″
DURING the year of two winters, Minnesota had winter all summer. Then in the fall it turned still colder. Lake Superior froze solid from top to bottom. It never would have thawed out if Paul hadn’t chopped all the ice out and thrown it up on the hills to melt in the sun. Twas the melting of one of these huge blocks of ice which formed Lake Bemidji, 200 miles away.
