Paul Bunyan once stumbled upon a young moose calf with the widest buffalo-plaid colored antlers anyone had ever seen! His name was Elmer, and he was more trouble than he was worth. His great plaid horns knocked over tents, sleds, and trees whenever he wandered camp. The cook cursed him daily for scraping the roof off the cookhouse. The men watched out for Elmer’s colorful horns so that they wouldn’t get speared by accident!
But when the winter storms buried the bunkhouses, Paul saw Elmer’s true gift. Lowering his head, Elmer pushed forward, his mighty plaid antlers plowing mountains of snow aside, carving a road wide enough for Babe the Blue Ox to pass, followed by his dozen teams of oxen.
